Cal Men's Crew Wins Pac 10 Championship!
Cal won its second consecutive Pac-10 championship in convincing fashion, finishing the day undefeated. In the men's varsity preliminaries, Cal won by a large margin. Within 500 meters Cal was 2.53 seconds ahead of Oregon State, and the Bears didn't let up. Cal eventually won with a nine-second lead over Oregon State.
The Bears' dominated the varsity four race, jumping out to a two-second lead after 500 meters and finishing almost five seconds ahead of the Huskies, with the next nearest boat 15 seconds behind Washington.
The freshman eight continued its undefeated streak, defeating Washington by just over a second. The Bears' led throughout on their way to victory.
Cal once again was unchallenged in the second varsity eight, jumping out to a quick one-second lead after 500 meters. The Bears never let up, finishing almost two seconds ahead of the Huskies.
In the varsity eight race Cal and Stanford fought each other for the championship. The Cardinal held a .66-second lead after 500 meters, but the Bears captured a .28-second lead at the halfway marker. Cal had extended its lead to more than one second with 500 meters to go and finished the race almost three seconds ahead of Stanford.
The Bears will next compete in the IRA Championship, June 1-3, in Cherry Hill, N.J.
